When it came to finding a good window cleaner, many of our customers confessed they had no idea what the price would be until they received their first quotes.
So here are a few points to give you an idea.
Flat rate VS hourly rate
At BL Vitres, we provide a fixed price for the work, not an hourly rate. So you know the final bill before the technicians come to your home to do the work. The benefits are manifold:
- There are no price surprises. Even if the job takes a little longer than expected, you pay the original price that was agreed.
- You’re not at a disadvantage if the weather isn’t ideal. For example, a very hot, sunny day can slow us down without increasing your bill.
- You can easily compare prices between different quotes.
Factors influencing the price between 2 companies
There are several important factors to consider when comparing two bids. Here are just a few of them:
- 1. Technician experience: An experienced, well-trained technician with the right equipment will do a better job than one who is just starting out. The result is likely to be different.
- 2. Condition of windows after washing: A good window washer should bring all windows back clean, regardless of their condition at the start. Properly cleaning frames and screens takes time, and the quote should reflect that.
- 3. Insurance: Some companies have insurance to cover possible damage to their customers and injuries to their employees, while others don’t. You may pay less with an uninsured self-employed worker, but you expose yourself to risks in the event of a problem.

Average price for residential window cleaning
When calculating the price of window cleaning, we take into account the number of windows to be cleaned, their size and the type of window involved. Here are some average price ranges:
- For a Bungalow: Between $200 and $300 + taxes for an interior and exterior wash, or $120 to $180 + taxes for an exterior wash only.
- For a Cottage home: Between $250 and $350 + taxes for an interior and exterior wash, or $150 to $210 + taxes for an exterior wash only.
- For a condo, when more than one condo is done at a time: Between $80 and $150 + taxes for an interior and exterior wash, or $40 to $90 + taxes for an exterior wash only.
List of factors influencing your bid
Apart from the number of panes and frames to be washed, several other factors have an impact on the overall price of having your windows washed. Here are just a few of them:
- 1. Accessibility of windows: If windows are more difficult to access, for example a high window in a room with a cathedral ceiling, the price could be adjusted upwards, whereas a bungalow with no high windows could be priced down.
- 2. The total number of windows to be washed: If you have a lot of windows to wash and our team will be at your place for several hours, the price per window may be adjusted downwards, while an apartment with only a few windows may cost more per window to allow for our travel time.
- 3. The condition of the windows : Practically new windows are quicker to wash than old ones that haven’t been washed for several years. Sometimes, certain hardware parts are damaged and require special equipment on our part. If some residue, such as glue or paint, is stuck to the glass or frame, the work takes longer for the technician. Find out more about our after-construction services.
- 4. Distance travelled to get the job done : We’re often asked to wash windows in cottages far away. In this case, a travel surcharge may apply. On the other hand, if you live close to our offices and have your windows cleaned on the same day as your neighbor, you may be eligible for a discount, since we clean 2 houses with only 1 trip.
- 5. Wash frequency: Customers who opt for more than one wash per year automatically receive a discount on the bill for each wash.
